Normal: Mirena (levonorgestrel) has progesterone as its active ingredient. Most of it acts locally but a small amount is absorbed. In sensitive women, this can cause pregnancy-like symptoms. Progesterone was named because levels rise during pregnancy and this helps support the pregnancy. Progesterone is one reason pregnant women feel the way they do. Best wishes!
