Uncommon: Well, that's uncommon. Possible explanations include: Residual hematoma from IV. The IV infiltrated while it was in place allowing for IVFs to leak into the surrounding tissue. Either of those causes should resolve over time. If there was an infiltration, the length of time it takes to heal will depend on what substance was going in at the time it went bad. Try warm compresses and massage area.

It should not: If you have palpable cord where IV was inserted, you may have developed superficial Thrombophlebitis. If there is skin change over it like infection=Cellulitis. If there is Bluish discoloration: Extravasation = but unlikely after 10 weeks. Hope it is NoT in the joint. Then it is independent of IV insertion So get examined.
