Cold sores : Most herpes HSV-1 or HSV-2 are acquired from infected but asymptomatic person. Herpes labialis or cold sores most common form of recurrent HSV-1. 50-80% of US population have antibodies to HSV-1 and 20-40% have antibodies to HSV-2. Having said that, even if you did get it from you last sexual encounter, there are so many people that carry virus, there's really no reason to blame each other.
