Tight control: Hi. How high is "very high"??? It sounds like you have gestational diabetes (GDM). If you have what we call very high, you need insulin. Are you lean or obese? Most GDMs are type 2's (and usu. obese). Rarely, type 1's get diagnosed during gestation (slender). You will be placed into High Risk OB (HROB) for the remainder of the preg. You will need tight blood sugar control for your benefit & baby.

Monitor you sugars: It appears that you may have gestational diabetes. Your doctor will instruct you on how to monitor and document your 'fingerstick' glucose (blood sugar). Depending on the values you may or may not need medications, such as glyburide or insulin, to control you sugars. If your sugars are not controlled it may cause your baby to grow too big and it may affect your delivery. Discuss with your doctor.
