A member asked:

Can depression be a symptom of scoliosis?

Unlikely: Unless the scoliosis is severe enough to cause disfigurement, chronic pain, or limitation in physical capabilities, then no.

Not exactly: Scoliosis is a structural deformity of the spine. Thought it is not itself a generator of depression, it may lead to poor self image which can result in depression. In point of fact, the word "orthopedics" means "straight children", and the symbol of orthopedics is a crooked tree supported by a rod. Both references to scoliosis treatment.

Not typically: The vast majority of cases are not directly associated. Severe cases may cause severe disfigurement, loss of appetite, loss of independence, chronic pain, and even pulmonary and cardiac failure, all of which could contribute to depression. Please consider getting checked and getting the help you may need. Thank you for your question.
