See below: Usually bruised ribs will feel sore at the site of the bruise. Other symptoms might be difficulty with breathing because the ribs move when we breath. When ribs are actually broken there is a remote chance that a broken piece can puncture the lung underneath it which would cause severe shortness of breath.
