See below: If one of your parents has polycystic kidney disease and you have hypertension, it is possible. Otherwise, it is unlikely. Hypertension at age 22 is uncommon. It warrants tests for chronic kidney disease, congenital abnormalities of the renal arteries and coarctation of the aorta, all of which can cause hypertension at a young age. Discuss these with your physician
