Oh, deer!: Most of Upper Illinois is considered a transitional area between high and low risk.according to the 2012 Lyme Disease Human Risk Map. There are small pockets where it is high risk in the northernmost part. Lyme carrying ticks depend on the white-tailed deer. No or few deer in the area, low to no Lyme ticks. In 2013 there were 337 cases of Lyme disease in THE WHOLE STATE. 2.6 cases per 100,000.
