Rhizopus toxin: Rhizopus nigricans is the fungus commonly known as bread mould. It is found abundantly on damp walls, basement areas and on kitchen leftovers, and clinically an important fungus and causes allergic symptoms. ‘toxic mould syndrome’ is a controversial diagnosis associated with exposure to mould-contaminated environments. An aqueous extract from 0.045 grams of dried mould can kill a 1.35 kg rabbit.
