A member asked:

If dextrose is added to normal saline then does this make sodium retention more likely?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No but: Normal saline has a very large amount of salt so it will lead to some degree of fluid retention. The dextrose (sugar) is rapidly taken up and used.
