Not too bad: Iq 80 is within borderline intellectual functioning. The person should have basic self care, reading, and writing skills. However, he/she may have trouble with complex math problems or abstract reasoning. He/she usually has safety awareness, but still need reminders to ensure safety and well-beings (eg. Turn off stove, take medication, go to doctor's appointment).

An IQ of 80 is at : the low end of the low-average range, 80-89. It would be difficult for a person with an IQ of 80 to excel in college or university, (S)he could do very well in trade school. Social/adaptive skills are important in such a person's ability to function independently. Comprehending abstract concepts, or higher order cognition, would be tough, but (s)he could learn to function in society.
