Soil & dust: Most lead exposure comes from contaminated soil (old mining sites, etc.) and from accidentally eating or breathing lead dust. Lead-based paint in an older home is mostly concerning if it is chipping or flaking, and exposure is worse for children than adults. If you are worried, a home inspector can test lead levels in the property, and your doctor can test you or your child's blood levels.
