Surgery: Tonsil stones are not stones but are the accumulation of food particles in the crypts (furrows) of the surface of the tonsils. Surgery is preferable to trying to dig out these food particles out with a Q-tip. This problem is often associated with a fetid odor to the breath noticed by both the patient and friends. It is ethically an indication for tonsillectomy.
