every night i wake up several times because i'm moving my legs from side to side rapidly. what is causing this? it's only started recently

Restless Leg Syndrom: This is not uncommon, but it is very distressing. It is not directly dangerous but the loss of sleep can lead to overall diminished health and that's bad. It's not easy to treat w/ certainty, but there are prescriptions that help some. See your doctor and try - some might work. Take it one step at a time. It can be a side effect too.
