Viral infections: cause fever, fatigue, sometimes abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, muscle aches and pains, cough, and weakness. While stress can lower your resistance to viral illnesses, it is not a cause. Most viral illnesses resolve in a week or so.

A pattern: In general a bacteria, like a staph abscess, enters the body and attacks a specific region or site, spreading locally. Viruses usually enter the body through the soft tissue of the oral cavity, eyes or nose.Viruses must enter tissue to survive and reproduce, then spread to the blood where they can quickly spread to all areas of the body, where it can trigger "systemic" symptoms.

I've been absent for work because if systemic viral infection. Is my absence justifiable because of my diagnosis? How to explain it to my employer?

Depends: Beyond recognizing your justification, you'd have my appreciation for preventing a spreading to others. But unless your local laws are wiser than most, it will be up to the management as to how they react. Try to have a written note from the doctor and that will do the major part of an explanation. I hope you succeed or that if you don't you can challenge it or that you find a better job. Best!

Healthy living: Usually, recurrent severe infections imply that the immune system is not working well. Viral infections every 3 mos is actually normal, especially if you work with the public. If they are all severe, then a healthier diet and rest should improve things. Vitamin
C is especially important.
