What is transverse fetal position?

Transverse is that: A transverse fetal position is just that, baby is sideways in the womb. Sometimes the wall of the uterus has a fibroid or the shape of the chamber is more like a heart than an egg, with a ridged outgrowth that prevents baby from assuming a head or bottom down position. This transverse position will interfere with a normal delivery & generally lead ti a c-section.

Unstable lie.: All fetuses spend time in each possible position in utero: head down (cephalic/vertex), head up (breech) and head sideways (transverse - up or down depending on the spine's location). Transverse positions are considered unstable lies, in that the fetus tends to vert to either cephalic or breech spontaneously given enough time. If non-cephalic presentations are found in labor they can cause problem.
