Depends...: Totally depends on the pathogen. Encapsulated viruses generally last longer than enveloped viruses, and bacteria like Staph aureus (MRSA) lasts seemingly forever. Practice "universal precautions" always and if you think you have experienced an unprotected exposure seek help immediately. Testing usually can be obtained from that patient to determine whether or not a virus was present.
