Cough: the most common cause for a cough is post nasal drip. Whooping cough lasts for few months if untreated and is diagnosed by culture. However, given the timeframe and the symptoms your Mo has she may just have sinus drainage.

Why coughing: coughing can have many causes including not drinking enough tea lemon and hone. Try green tea with lemon and honey - eight 8 ounce glasses. If that doesn't clear the cough should be checked for bronchitis or other conditions.
