Contact your surgeon: The most likely cause for this is irritation and swelling from the breathing tube used during the procedure. BUT, there are some very rare and more dangerous causes of dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) so he should let his surgeon know about the problem he is having. Keeping his head elevated above his heard will help any swelling go down faster.

Swallowing difficult: Difficulty swallowing happens when you have blockage in the food pipe, To name some it could be from web like structure in the esophagus, a mass or stricture from scarring of the esophagus etc. If it is recurrent problem have it looked at.
