A doctor has provided 1 answer

Food dyes: can often cause the stool to have a red color that resembles blood but would give a negative test for occult blood. Metamucil works as a gel to hold moisture. If diarrhea stools, it can help to thicken them, if dry, hard and constipated, it can pull water into the stool and make it a little softer.
