Brown discharge: is often old blood being cleaned from the vagina. White discharge with no symptoms could just be leukorrhea. If you have a change in color, texture, odor or amount of vaginal discharge & problems such as pain, itching burning with urination or sex or redness/swelling then It is best to see your gynecologist for evaluation & accurate assessment.

Vaginal discharge: A discharge as you describe may be simple mucus mixed with light spotting (blood turns brown quickly) and may be just ovulatory bleeding. Check with your healthcare professional for testing to make sure.
