FastidiousOralHygien: If the white film on your tongue doesn't come off when you brush it with your toothbrush then you may be dealing with a case of thrush. Thrush requires a medicated solution that you swish around in your mouth. Your doctor should be consulted for evaluation. If the film goes away with the toothbrush then regular oral hygiene including tongue cleaning and use of a mouth wash twice daily (minimum).

Many causes: An infection called candidiasis can cause this problem as well as other things. Your best bet is to talk to your doctor about using Mycostatin (nystatin) swish and swallow. he/she will know what your talking about and agree or not. but your doctor is the one you will help it to go away.
