Cost vs medical: Forteo is indicated for severe osteoporosis or for patients who failed bisphosponate therapy. However, it is contraindicated in patient with history of bone cancer, Paget disease, hypercalcemia or previous treatment with skeletal radiation. It is also very expensive.

Forteo: Conditions that can preclude Forteo are Paget's disease of the bone, high blood calcium, kidney stones, metabolic bone disorders and prior external beam or implant radiation involving the skeleton. Pediatric and young adults with open epiphyses should not take this. Like with any medication, the final decision must be made between you and your doctor taking into account the risks/benefits
