Enlarged prostate: MAY be the issue. Your doc can check it. The prostate wraps around the urethra and can pinch off the flow of urine. Very common in older men. A natural product called "ProstaThera" by the ProThera company can be helpful but you need a licensed professional to get it for you. Peace and good health.

Benign Prostatic: Hyperplasia also called benign enlargement of the prostate. BPH is very common in patients over 60 years of age. The weak urine stream, the urgency to urinate are common symptoms. See your PCP first. Your primary care physician may decide that your symptoms should be treated by a urologist.

Weak stream: Weak stream is never normal, even if not accompanied by any other symptom [like burning + frequency + fever + flank pain]. It should never occur as a single symptom in young people. In older men, 50yo above, it can be simply bigger prostate then normal [and always also harder instead of being really really soft and not squeezing onto the ureter].

Slow flow: Voiding flow rates are a function of the strenght of the bladder muscle and the caliber of the out flow tract including the bladder neck, the prostatic urethra and the penile urethra. Weak stream most commonly occurs with prostatic growth age related narrowing the passage.

A 65-year-old male asked:
The term weak urine stream is vague. Is there a vol/time measurement that defines a weak stream?

Medical Terminology: Nope. This is like porn you are supposed to know what porn is when you see it and with a urine stream not weak is the sensation you can easily push the urine out of your bladder and there is a pressure and rapidity that seems to go away as us men get a bit older. Weak means that it can take time to start to go and that there is no possibility that you can push the urine out any faster.
