Absolutely: Folate (folic acid) deficiency might be the cause of the anemia as well. See your OB for getting the right amount of protective folate (folic acid).

You SHOULD: You must take folate (folic acid) supplement and iron supplemeny in addition to the prenatal multi vitamins if your folate (folic acid) and iron level are low during your pregnancy to decrease risk for birth defect. If you dont respond to oral iron supplement- or can't tolerate -due to nausea/vomiting- then intravenous iron would be needed. Dont delay-see you OB for further instruction.
