A member asked:

Haven't missed any bc pills but my withdrawal bleed is very light and brown. why? didn't have sex this month, negative pg test last month duringperiod

A doctor has provided 1 answer

OCP's and bleeding: As the iron in blood oxidizes, it goes from a bright red to dark red to brown. One of the functions of OCP's is to make the lining of your uterus thin and reduce the overall amount of bleeding that you do. Lighter periods, then are a function of taking the OCPs. The symptoms you are describing, therefore, are a function of taking the oral contraceptive correctly.
