Get Spirometry: Your asthma may be flared up due to the season and the pollen counts. I would suggest you see your doctor and get a breathing test called a spirometry to see if you are well controlled or not. You may need a higher dose of Flovent. GERD can certainly contribute, but may not be the only issue.

Could be your asthma: Asthma can be triggered by allergens, and if you seem to be awakening with those symptoms the triggers could very well be in your home. Pets? Mold in central air/heat ducts? Dust mites? An ionic or HEPA air purifier in the bedroom might help your symptoms.
