Depends: Loratadine is FDA approved for 10mg once daily for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. It is often used at twice daily doses in the treatment of chronic hives, but this is not FDA approved. There is however a large amount of safety data accumulated for using it as this dose. It has been studied at doses as high as 40 mg per day but at that dose is sedating.
