Difficult to tell: If the pain is brief and does not recur, I would not worry about it. You may never find the cause. It could be a number of things eg ovulatory pain, rupture of a small ovarian cyst, gas pain from the bowel, referred pain from the bladder, etc . Persistent pain should be evaluated. If you are sexually active always exclude pregnancy.
