A member asked:

Rising of ca19-9 after chemotherapy, what to do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Change therapy: Ca 19.9 is not a diagnostic marker. It should only be used for monitoring purposes after a diagnosis of colon or pancreatic cancer is made. A decrease in this marker signifies a response to treatment and an elevation in this marker after treatment was started signifies failure to respond. Discuss with oncologist what is the next approach to be employed.
