Echo and Aorta: The best test is a CTA... an echo may be an initial study but not the best and most diagnostic

Aorta: A trans-thoracic echocardiogram (TTE) may not show an aortic dissection; trans-esophageal echo(TEE) is more sensitive. CT, MRI, and angiogram are excellent diagnostic tests. It is very uncommon in young people unless they have very high blood pressure due to cocaine use or were in an auto accident with a traumatic chest injury. Lupus, Cushing's syndrome, and Marfan's Syndrome are other causes.
