Diverticulosis: If you have pain, then the problem is not diverticulosis. Diverticulosis by itself can cause painless bleeding, but not other symptoms. When diverticuli become inflammed and infected with bacteria, you have "diverticulitis, " and this is a painful condition, usually on the left, lower side, with low-grade fever. This condition needs antibiotics. You need an md evaluation.

High fiber diet best: Diverticulosis of the colon is thought to be caused by a relative lack of fiber in the diet- specifically insoluble fiber, the kind that's in bran, or psyllium supplements. There is evidence that a high fiber diet decreases episodes of abdominal pain in those with diverticulosis. Remember that fiber and fluid work together, so also drink more water as you add more fiber to your diet.
