Otosclerosis: Stapedectomy/stapedotomy is a procedure for Otosclerosis. In this condition, the stapes bone in the middle ear is fixed with bony overgrowth resulting in conductive hearing loss (preventing vibration from becoming a nerve signal). A portion of the stapes is removed and a hole is created with a drill or laser. An artificial piston is placed restoring conduction and hearing.
