NLP: It means that the visual acuity is listed as NLP, which means no light perception. The patient sees only blackness, even when a bright light is shone directly into the eye. The problem may be at any point in the visual pathway. One of the most common causes in the US is glaucoma wherein the optic nerve has completely withered away and will not transmit the visual signal from the eye to the brain.
