?herpes virus: Herpes simplex infection of the throat is usually accompanied by painful throat blisters and there may be fever. Have your boyfriend examined by a physician as there are treatments for herpes throat infections if that's what he has. Other types of viruses can also cause blistering of the throat and/or mouth.
