Asymptomatic spread: Most STI testing is based on finding antibodies that are made in response to an exposure/infection. So short answer - most take a few weeks. However you should consider testing now to establish that you don't have an STI that you are presently unaware of. Since a large number of patients with herpes are asymptomatic it is unfortunately possible to get herpes from someone who has no visible lesion

Time varies. Yes.: Varied times for different STDs. Gonorrhea & chlamydia 2-3 days, probably 1-2 weeks for vaginal infections like trichomonas and bacterial vaginosis, 4-6 weeks for syphilis & HIV blood tests. If no symptoms, do it all at 4-6 weeks. Herpes is often transmitted by people who don't know they have it or who are not having an outbreak.
