A member asked:

I'm 2 weeks postpartum and naturally i am still bleeding lochia. i started the mini pill today and i'm hoping it will stop the bleeding sooner??

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It will not.: After the placenta is delivered the lining of the uterus call the decidua remains. The superficial layer is shead and this is call lochia. It is red brown for the first few days, called lochia ruba. Then it becomes watery, lochia serosa and is pinkish brown, for about 2-3 weeks. It then becomes yellow- white, lochia alba. It is not affected by either estrogen or progesterone contraceptive.
