Prolonged: Viral upper respiratory tract infections like the common cold usually clear in a week or so. When symptoms persist beyond 10 days a bacterial infection such as SInusitis or bronchitis is suspected and often antibiotics are prescribed to expedite the clearing of these infections. See your physician if symptoms persist or worsen.
