Where can fibroids grow?

In the uterus: Fibroids are benign muscular growths that can occur in the wall of the uterus. They can occur on the inside of the wall, right in the middle, or on the outside. Commonly they cause no symptoms, but they can cause pain and/or bleeding, especially if they are large.

Uterus: Fibroids, or leimomyoma, are benign tumors that grow in the uterus. There are a several layers of the uterus, that these benign tumors grow. Submucosal, myometrial, subserosal, this is important when considering different treatment modalities. Submucosal fibroids are easily treated with myomectomy whereas myometrial and subserosal generally require other treatments, uterine artery embolization.

Anywhere: They can grow on the surface, inside the cavity, and the uterine wall. They can vary widely in size. Rarely, they can grow outside the uterus as well.

The uterus: Benign fibroids will only grow in the uterus.
