Dry Eyes: Your symptoms are most likely dry eye. However, sometimes chemical irritation of the eyes might be the cause of your symptoms, eg. chlorine in pool, ammonia, bleech or other caustic cleaners. You may also have an allergic reaction to pollens or dust. Best is to have an ophthalmologist (MD) examine you and check out your tear function with Schirmer Test and rule out GPC.

Corneal abrasion: Sharp pain in the eye may be a symptom of corneal abrasion which is a scratch on the outer surface of the eye. An ophthalmology evaluation, (a physician who specializes in diseases of the eye) would be helpful.
