What is the pathogenesis of lambert eaton myasthenic syndrome?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

LEMS: This disease is caused by antibodies directed against the Voltage Gated Calcium Channel (VGCC) of the presynaptic neuron. These antibodies block normal calcium flux and therefore prevent the release of acetycholine into the synapse. Antibodies can arise idiopathically, but at least 50% of LEMS cases are related to small cell lung cancer. Apparently SCLC cells express VGCC on their surface.
