A member asked:

Is a patient is 18, can she get birth control from her doctor without her parents knowing?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes...but...: The rules of patient confidentiality do protect the young adult (18+) from transferring this information to the parents without written permission. However, if they are on the parents insurance plan, the parent would likely get the insurance EOB-explanation of benefits which details the date of any visit and basic information on why charges were incurred.
