Not recommended: You already have excessive daytime sleepiness and gabapentin has a possible side effect of lethargy. Alcohol won't help with either situation and may actually cause you to feel even less awake and less productive. See your physician for a full evaluation and discussion. Avoid drinking.: Patients who are taking gabapentin are highly advised to avoid drinking alcohol because it can aggravate the side effects and lead to disaster.
