See your doctor: Healing skin infections should start to get smaller and less red with treatment. If you are concerned return to your doctor for a recheck.

It is not: After 5 days you should be getting a response. You need to start an antibiotic. You should let your provider know.

Impetigo: The redness around the lesion should be shrinking in diameter. Are you applying warm compresses for the lesion? That may help in conjunction with the ointment. Be sure not to pick at or remove any scabs as that opens the area up for more bacteria to invade.

Impetigo: You will know if it's healing when it dries out and you don't get any more new lesions. Topical antibiotics would work well if you have 2-3 lesions, but if it is more widespread, you will need to add systemic antibiotics (oral) for a complete cure.
