A member asked:

Is the ast:alt ratio really that important in liver disease? mine constantly fluctuates.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Serially monitor: A high AST/ALT ratio can be serially monitored to track alcoholic liver disease (eg cirrhosis). Fluctuation in a narrow range may be physiologic, but trends over time are more worrisome. See a hepatologist for further evaluation and discussion. http://www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/medicalpubs/diseasemanagement/hepatology/guide-to-common-liver-tests/
