Bruise or dry?: A painless red spot on the white part of the eye may be a bruise, which is self limited & usually disappears after several days without treatment. On the other hand, you may just have dryness which imparts redness to the eyes, generally bilaterally & artificial tears 4 times/day will help. Pain with redness deserves an examination by an eye physician.
