A member asked:

My wife is pregnant and she started complaining of severe headache. the mri revealed optic nerve oedema. is it common with the pregnancy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not common: Papilledema during pregnancy may signal cerebral venous sinus thrombosis or idiopathic intracranial hypertension. (Pre)eclampsia can cause other neurologic deficits. Neuropathies of the cranial nerves (eg optic nerve) have also been reported as case reports. See a neuro-ophthalmologist for evaluation. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22089502 , http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17007732
