Depends: Alcohol not as much impact as smoking. Don't smoke! Stop couple days before and don't drink after as long as you are on pain meds. Never mix alcohol and narcotics! Ask your surgeon his/her opinion - follow that advice. Good luck and be well.

Mild to mod alcohol?: At 18, I hope you are not consuming excessive alcohol which is considered more than 2 drinks per day. Patients who consume this much are at a higher risk of numerous complications. If drinking small amounts, refrain from alcohol for 48 hours and certainly no binge drinking prior to that

I recommend my patients to cut down on alcohol consumption 1 month before surgery and to completely stop 1 week before surgery. It should also not be consumed during recovery, as it may cause interactions with medications and affect its efficacy and recovery. I tell my patients that they can consume alcohol once medications are complete, however, you should speak with your surgeon on any questions
