Incompetent cervix: There are women who lose pregnancies when a weak cervix allows the fetus & support structures to "fall out"mid pregnancy. If this occurs multiple times, one treatment that can strengthen the cervical os is a "circlage" , basically a temporary band like structure that is placed by the OB during pregnancy to be removed when delivery time approaches. Close OB followup is important.

Maybe: Cervical cerclage is the medical term for the os tightening you describe. It is controversial but most would agree that it may help some women. However the patient's specific history of cervical weakness or pregnancy loss needs to be evaluated by a doctor.
