Get a Blood Test: Urine pregnancy gets are simple but tricky. Pregnancy is the most common cause for missing your period. Thyroid hypo activity will also cause amenorrhea. A blood test will make the diagnosis for either condition.

Tested too soon: You may get a blood test for HCG one day after a missed period. A negative result on a test done too early does not exclude pregnancy. If you miss your period by 4-5 days, do a home pregnancy test. If the result is negative repeat the test 4-5 days later unless you get a period by then. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.
